reasons to buy british...

We found this brilliant list on the www.frombritainwithlove.com website
and just couldn't resist pinching it!

1. Make it... Original
Say goodbye to bland, mass-produced products, and instead choose original and distinctive products that you love, and which reflect your own individual style.

2. Make it... Local
Shop local and discover exciting new products and regional specialities... and it's not just food: think of Welsh blankets, Sussex trugs and Scottish cashmere

3. Make it... Last
Ditch the disposable and choose products made from quality materials which transcend trends and age gracefully to become heirlooms of the future. When you know a product has been made with love, you won’t want to throw it away.

4. Make it... Matter
Support home-grown talent, creativity and innovation. With the growth of online retail, it’s never been easier to buy direct from artists, designers, craftspeople and food producers. Your purchases matter to independent businesses and they rely on your support.

5. Make it... Sustainable
Buy less and treasure it more. Buying locally produced products helps reduce your carbon footprint, and by keeping things for longer you’ll save money in the long term and help reduce landfill too.

6. Make it... Count
Investing in bespoke, handmade or one-off products from innovative British artists and designer-makers can be a great investment that will grow in value while you enjoy owning them.

7. Make it... Personal
Meet the people who make your products. From craft fairs to farmers markets and open studios to art galleries, meet talented British producers and find out more about how they work.

8. Make it... Fun
Once you start buying British made products, you’ll be hooked! Travel anywhere in Britain and you’ll constantly be on the lookout for local producers, shops and markets where you can seek out exciting new products and local specialities to take home with you.

9. Make it... Yourself
There’s nothing more satisfying than making something for your home or giving a gift that you’ve made yourself. So why not have fun and learn a new skill on one of the many exciting courses run by talented producers across the British Isles.

10. Make it... Happen!
We’re constantly inspired by the producers we meet and the fantastic products they make and we hope you will be too. Spread the word!

Why oak?

One of the main benefits of choosing oak furniture is its ability to last. Oak is a hardwood with a tight grain which means its durable and can take almost anything your daily family life can throw at it!

Oak furniture is often considered to be expensive but its enduring quality and sturdiness will stand the test of time. You shouldn't have to replace well made oak furniture unless you want to redecorate your rooms with new items. Owning a few solid oak pieces is an investment that can last a lifetime.

Oak is also a versatile wood and furniture can be simple or elaborate in design making it ideal for all types of furniture from chairs and tables to beds and wardrobes.

The attractive appearance of the wood is down to the grain, which has a subtle variegation, and to its distinctive light golden colour.

Keeping your oak furniture looking good is simple too and you will find oak is one of the easiest types of furniture to care for. Just wipe your oak furniture without using spray or cleaning products and give it a light coat of Danish oil when you feel the wood needs it.

With a small amount of care oak furniture will reward you with a lifetime of use.
